What revs to set timing

Hi i m going to check the timing on my T5 with 172 malossi kit could you please tell me what revs do i have the engine running at to get proper reading thnks Gary

Hi,
As I set my timing with a strobe light some month ago, I noticed that it advanced approx one degree when I revved from idle up to approx 2000 rpm. Can’t understand why.
Therefore I propose that you set the timing at 2000 rpm, that’s what I did.

Just for the cents worth… i know Diablo has mentioned in a previous discussion that he never changes from standard 16 deg for malossi 172.

cheers

Hi gaz, the timing on a P type Vespa is a fixed type as in there is no advance or retard so the spark will be in the same place what ever the revs are. Having said that it is better to set the timing up at about 2000 rpm as this will be smoother than a lumpy tickover. Timing for a standard T5 is 16’ BTDC and a Malossi is 13-14’ BTDC hope this helps . Mark.

what i thought hi have set it at 2000rpm .scooter shops i have phoned say leave it at 16 btdc
