HI I HAE A STANDARD VESPA PX 125 DISC AND HAVE JUST RECENTLY AQUIRED A T5 CLASSIC, NOW THE SPEED AND ACCELERATION ON THE T5 IS FAR SUPERIOR TO THE PX, AT THE MOMENT I CANT JUSTIFY HAVING THE 2 SCOOTS, AND AS I HAVE SPENT LOADS ON THE PX AND IT IS NEW THE T5 MIGHT HAVE TO GO, BUT I WILL MISS THE SPEED AND PERFORMANCE, IF I PUT A MALOSSI KIT AND 24MM CARB ON THE PX WILL IT BE AS FAST AS THE T5 AND ACCELERATION BE THE SAME, OH I HAVE A SIP PIPE ON TO… [:drink:]
Everybody will have their own preference on this topic. Pro’s and cons to each. The T5 engines top end, for a scooter, is the best there is for port layout (can we have a 200 version please) as standard fitment. The down side to a t5 is the cost of components compaired to px parts, and set up has to be monitored thru its lifetime. With the px parts are generally cheaper, and if you neglect an engine overhaul, get an air leak on a seal etc, the resulting damage is cheaper to repair mainly due to a cast iron barrel, even the malossi kit is cast iron so can be rebored. In your scenario, I would keep the px, and look around for a p2 lump, put the 125 engine in the bedroom ready to swap back when youre ready to sell it. Tune the p2 for the same price as the 125 and half of what youll get for the t5 classic. AND GET A DECENT PIPE.
AGAIN THOUGH, WILL A MALOSSI 166 WITH 24MM CARB BE AS QUICK OFF THE MARK AS A STANDARD T5…AND I LIKE MY PIPE[]
A Malossi 166 should easily exceed a std. T5. Also, if youre happy with your pipe then it is perfect.
