Vespa GS 150 VS2 fuel tank

Having recently acquired a GS 150 VS2 (more or less complete), a look at the rust in the petrol tank convinces me of the need to replace it before I can attempt to start the engine. Being a novice as far as Vespas are concerned I would like to know how to remove the old tank, at first glance there seems to be nothing really holding it in place. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Michael. If it is the same as a VS4 then there is little holding it in place. Remove the seat, remove the lip that allows the seat catch to stay down and then remove the fuel pipe. You will also have to remove the fuel tap lever which should be held on with an 'R' clip. Then just lift it out.

If you really are new to Vespas then you have started with a lovely model. The best book I have used is 'How to Restore and Maintain Your Vespa Motorscooter' which is easy to get hold of.

Also the Yahoo group 'Vespa-Sports' is very good: worldwide and friendly.

Enjoy the scooter, Peter.

Thankyou for your help Peter. As a young man inn the 1960s I had a VS4 which I bought for 40 pounds ! I simply rode it as it was not very old I did very little to it, but now I have a restoration project. I was advised to start with the engine ( a VS2 engine unblocked and very original but not original to the bike)This is why I need to remove the fuel tank so that I can do something about the "original" rust. But you have given me faith to continue
