Vespa 150PX M - Touring tune-up

Hallo everybody,

After extensively reading about all different kits, I came down to the following choices. I am trying to build a touring configuration that can deliver maximum endurance and increased performance.

1) Racing Cylinder PINASCO 177cc  (#84100000)
2) Carburetor DELL`ORTO SI 24/24 (#28532800)
3) Spark Plug BOSCH W3AC, (#88025000)
4) Air Filter PIAGGIO  (#40250000)
5) Racing Exhaust SIP ROAD sport (#24156000)
6) Long Stroke Crankshaft MAZZU.. (#46005000)
7) Gasket Cylinder Base (th) 1,5mm (#90783000)

Could you please check if my choices make sense? Would I need anything else for this upgrade?

I would appreciate any help,

PS: Is the long stroke absolutely necessary?

Best,
Jiko

Thank you for your answer, I will keep those in mind. My exhaust is kind of old and corroded, so I want it to change it. I ll go for the Pianasco Alum without the long crankshaft. I ll keep the gearing mod for later on as I am running out of money.

I ll let you know how it goes!

Jiko

jyviko,

first i would say that if you're going for maximum endurance, i would say no to a long stroke crankshaft. i've been told that a long stroke is less durable - ofcorse, opinions will differ on the subject of crankshafts... but that's my 2 cents. second, i ask what kind of exhaust do you have on your px now? and, how many miles are on it? if it's not really in need of a rebuild, just adding a performance exhaust, a si 24/24 carb, and an air filter can add a good bit of performance while keeping the endurance high. plus, if that doesn't add enough performance - you can add a cylinder kit after. as far as cylinder kits go, check into the d.r. 177 kit. it doesn't give as good of a performance boost as some of the other kits, but a lot of people say it's one of the most durable/dependable kits. (in the intrest of full disclosure, i had a bad experience with a d.r. kit. but, i've read and heard good things about the durablility of it.) so i guess i'm saying check into the d.r. 177 kit. as for the pinasco kit, i've read and heard mixed reviews. if you get the aluminum version, it will run cooler - so that's good. the other thing you might want to check into is the gearing/a up-gear option. any time you can run at lower RPMs will add to the life of an engine. depending on the stock gearing of your engine, you might be able to lower your RPMs a bit by just going 1 gear tooth higher on your clutch... not as effective as tearing your whole engine apart and putting in a full up-gear kit, but much much easier. i mention the higher gearing because to me, building a "touring" scooter means you'll be running at higher speeds for long distances... so dropping your RPMs a bit will help with engine endurance.

and finally, let me tell you this - my experience is with a 150cc 2 stroke stella. it's similar to a 150px, but it isn't the same. so your gearing and engine might be a bit different from my stella.

hopefully a 150px owner with a "touring" set up will add to this thread. i just wanted to give you my thoughts and give you some things to think about.

good luck. and, keep me updated on your progress. later... heggie
