T5 top end probs!

Ive recently finished running in my mal 172 (hooooray), but i’m a bit dissapointed with the performance.
Im running a mikeck mk3 , 122 main jet , and a cosa fl2 clutch.
1st,2nd, and 3rd isnt bad but 4th is dead.
Ive managed to get about 70 - 72 out of it , but after only after going down a steepish hill.
Getting the revs up in 4th isnt easy because the mikeck has quite a late powerband , and the cosa clutch gives a longer 4th gear .
But i didnt know if the main jet could be the problem ?
I luv the mikeck but if the likes of a simonini makes the 4th gear better perhaps thats the answer.
Please help !!!

hi
mtl direct,
you say that a 130 main jet is large for my set up,
but looking at the plug its running sweet as a nut
i don’t run an air filter at the moment-this might explain as to why its not running too rich!!!
i have also had the crankshaft profile changed to allow more fuel onto the casings-something i learned when i had FSI-Es!!
i would appreciate any thoughts[H] [:smokin:] [H] [:drink:]

Im from London, but I now live in Havant just outside Portsmouth.

[:D] I had the same thing with my T5, so i put the old clutch back in with reinforces 4 plated clutch and springs,it will now pull in 4th + a little head modifying and it was going very well until my exhaust fell off[:@] Richard

82ish with the same engine setup but using the lowly sito plus exhaust and flyscreen fitted(seriously 4-5mph faster than without on top end) with autolube running putoline strawberry 2 stroke fully loaded with camping gear from IOW with rather heavy solo rider.
:shoot1:[:dance3:]

120kph is 74mph, if you look at the middle of the H in the mph at the bottom that is about 80. That is way fast enough on a vespa and im scared to go much past that. Although I have been up to 85mph, at least thats my guess.

I tend to ride mine in the same way, I always tend to be late in the morning, and have to batter it for my 12 mile journey.

Hey Jegrieve

Does your machine pull smoothly all through the rev range with a 130 main jet. The reason Im asking is a 130 on that setup may may run rich in the mid range and bog a bit. If you have changed the air jet and holder as well and not only the main jet it should be fine. If it runs smoothly through the rev range just ingnore me.

That is because the A3 is full of hills and the wind is behind you on the way back!

hi mtl direct!!
strange name!
further to your question about pulling smoothly through out the rev range-yeah baby!!!
but i do tend to b*** the cobwebs away if you know what i mean.
having the increased bhp/cc -i feel that the engine is rev happy

mtl where are you from

Hi my T5 has the same set up as your but simonini pipe top speed 70 75 Gary[:drink:]

This may very well be true but, A, i didn’t travel on that road( at all) and,B, the bike is good for that speed most of the time on the flat.It was on the A1 at catterick when i was clocked and next day found my rear wheel had sheered two nuts off and cracked in two places(lucky escape).
:shoot1:[:dance3:]

JUST LOGED ON FOR THE FIRST TIMES
I HAVE EARLY T5 CLASSIC-92
FITTED MALOSSI 172 AND SIP PERFORMANCE PIPE.
CURRENTLY RUNNING 130 MAIN JET IN STANDARD CARB
ALSO HAVE 21 COG COSA CLUTCH
ON A GOOD DAY WILL TOP 85
JUST HAD FULL REBUILD AND FILLS AS GOOD AS NEW

MUST ADMIT I HAVE HEARD QUITE A FEW STORIES ABOUT THE BRACKET SNAPPING ON THESE PIPES

I AM CONSIDERING MORE TUNING IMPROVEMENTS-ANY IDEAS???[:smokin:] [:drink:]

:
D I wish my speedo would go to 85 ,after 70 i run out of numbers unless we are on km/h ! Richard

A 130 main jet is way too large on that set up.

Back in the good old days (late 80’s - early 90’s) pm tuning used to offer a powervalve for your exhaust, which used to work quite well until they clogged up . Are these available anymore as this could be of some help ?

Its getting harder to get up in the morning now its turning cold, so I expect to be riding at full throttle all winter!
