T5 Malossi 172 Cylinder Head

I love my T5, it's great fun but lacks power up hills and in headwinds (the usual issues).

I'm considering getting a Malossi 172 kit as I've heard mostly great things about them (running it with a Sito Plus and standard carb). I don't want CRAZY top end, but a little more would help up top and more power down low.

My question is: can I run this kit with the original cylinder head without getting it modified – seeing as the Malossi fitting instructions say "The original head should be used as not to increase the compression ratio" (  http://www.scooterhelp.com/tuning/malossi.172.install.pdf  ). It's one of the few kits that don't come with a head.

I know SIP sell a MMW head with higher compression to compliment this cylinder. Is this essential, or does it just offer better performance? It's quite expensive, so would rather fit one at a later date when I get the cash if it's only for optimal performance. However, I don't want the kit to go bang!!

Also, does anybody know the timing settings for the increased compression MMW head?

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks mate, that does make sense... the instructions are quite misleading it seems.

I'll have to save a bit more cash then!

Cheers

you need to rewark the standard head. The bore is very different in a malossi.

The MMW head is a nice piece so if you can buy it do it.

the ignition timing about 14° BTDC should be ok.
