Just fitted a brand new PX 200 engine to my old SS. runs well, but it takes maybe 10-15 kicks to start it when cold…
Is this normal running in issues? It is a totally stock engine running with a NGK sparkplug, the exhaust is old, but it is original.
I think the choke is working fine… at least it kills the engine if I pull it out when the engine is warm and running…
I will check to see if it is pulled all the way out inside the carburator when I pull the lever.
How short should the fuel hose be? I figure I could remove maybe 5 cm… but I have never had any fuel issues… is this really critical?
Again; this is a totally stock PX200, it hasn’t even been run in yet…
Does the new engine have autolube, and you are manually mixing the oil in the petrol? If so, you have to increase the main jet. With autolube it should be 116, with premixed 118.

Hi Dan,
What carby and jetting are you using. Also does it have the aircleaner with the holes drilled out above the main and idle jet or is it the one that is blocked?
If you have the aircleaner that has the air dam above the jets, then you will like this.
Drill a 5mm hole into the aircleaner body above the jets, making very sure that no filings are likely to end up in the carby.
Increase the jet one size ie standard should be 116 change to 118.
Feel the difference.
A few mates and I had an afternoon using a dyno. Before I fitted the Pinasco Kit we took mine back to stock standard, the little trick above resulted in an extra 1/2 Horsepower measured at the rear wheel.
Not bad for a $5.00 modification.
Hope that helps
Cheers
Richard
Problem solved…
the old exhaust has been replaced for a new one, and all is sheer bliss!
The old one was probably full of carbon deposits…
aha… I’ll try to change the jet! It is an autolube, and I am running it with premix.
I have opened it up to attach the fuel line an the cables… but other than that, no. I am going to check the mixing screw setting and the choke action and see if that helps. I have heard that when the engine comes from the factory, the mixing screw is not really set…
hmm…still no good… this is getting on my nerves[?[]
I suspect my engine is flooded, as I just discovered that my petrol switch is not working anymore…
Is the choke working right?
Leif
Often a long fuel line does cause starting issues. There could even be a kink in the line somewhere. As it’s a new engine it doesn’t sound like a worn float needle or float. Did you touch the carb at all?

Then the mixing screw has to be set for the higher flow as well.
As the pump in the autolube system is meant to be lubricated by the oil it is transporting, it might cause problem when it is running dry. Maybe it is best to remove it?
Does anybody know??[?[] [?[] [?[] [?[]

How should the mixing screw be? it is now at 2 1/4 turns out. It seems to be running ok, but haven’t tried to start it cold yet…
