Stalling at speed

Ive had a problem with my 2000 PX200 over the last 2 days.

While travelling down the freeway at 110mk/h the bike instantly stalls and wont restart for about 30 to 60 seconds. [:’(]

After it happened the first time, 2 days ago, I got a vibrating noise somewhere around the engine/crankshaft instantly after restarting the bike. The noise is constantly there and increases in proportion to the engine revs. It stalled again yesterday after travelling about the same distance as I had done the day before (approx 20km averaging around 95-100 km/h. external temperature was about 30 degrees celcius). Im not sure if the stalling is heat related, but Ive driven the bike in over 40 degree before and not had any problems.

Hope someone can offer some insite into the stalling and the rattling noise.

well like the other guy said, we need more details. did it lock up and skid to a halt or did it start to miss like it wasn’t firing all the time or did it go like it was running out of petrol (getting a deep sucking noise when the throttle is open but just not going anywhere)? final question is have you noticed that the scooter has lower compression, when you try kicking the engine over does it go over much easier than it used to. oh one other question, as soon as you have got the bike to a stop does the engine turn over straight away?

so here are the possible problems.

if you answered yes to the lock up and skid and no to the engine turning over staright away then it sounds very like a heat seizure, this could be caused by fuel startvation.

if it started to miss like it wasn’t firing properly then it’s an electrical problem, either your sparkplug your HT lead your coil or your stator plate.

if it went like it was running out of petrol then that is probably just what it did, you should clean out the carb and check the fuel switch and replace the fuel line.

if you have noticed a lack of compression and power then it is possible that you have cracked one of the piston rings. despite what a lot of people think you can still run an engine on one ring but it will only run for so long. it could also be the cause of the vibrating noise as you will have lost piston stability, if you think that is the problem then get it checked cos it could cause MAJOR damage.

hope this helps.

I did seize the engine and damaged a few bearings. The reason for the seizure was the oil I was using was too thin and the fuel also didnt have enough oil in it.

I was using BP oil and fuel.

I now use a different oil and havent had a problem since. (I did have to get the engine rebuilt, but only had to replace the bearings)

Do you mean a heat seize?
