Hi all just about to put my scooter back together and was wondering what will be the best sort of shocks to put on it ??? I was going to put Bitubo on but i have had a few people slag them off so thoughts please.
Its a T5 by the way with a 172 kit on it if this makes any difference
Hi,
I put a new standard shock with a SIP uprated spring on my front end (66 Sprint with PX150 motor). Its made a world of difference and the uprated spring is only a few quid more.
THANKS MATT, YOUR SCOOTER IS IMPRESSIVE. I’VE STARTED MAKING SPRING RETAINERS WITH DIFFERENT THICKNESSES TO SEE IF THEY STIFFEN UP THE FRONT END, I’VE CHANGED THE 3MM ONE FROM WOOLACOMBE TO A 12MM ONE, IT SEEMS TO BE GOOD SO FAR.
Standard shocks with taffy uprated springs, or you can simply uprate your existing springs using old small frame clutch springs. They work really well for a fraction of the cost.
I replaced the horrible red plastic shroud on a sebac shock with an alloy spring retainer to improve the look, I made it 12mm thick to stiffen up the shock as well.

… and very smart they look too I might add Adrian. I saw ur scoot at Woolacombe in the custom show. I’m Matt by the way. (the guy that was parked next to you with the pepsi scooter)
I don’t know Richie, I met Andy the editor when he came to do the feature on the LML, good bloke. Hope to get my next project in the mag when it’s done.
Not clutch springs in shocks, basically extend the spring by placing a small frame clutch spring underneath mainspring- hard to compress to join up so you’ll need a mate to help.
The front spring will need a washer between both springs but you can modify part of the plastic dust protector for that.
I knew all those hours watching blue peter would pay off one day.Dan
if you want decent shocks it all depends how much you want to pay taffspeed springs are good but ive put bitubo,s on my t5 there a better ride but thats my personal opinion
Richie came down and did the photoshoot for Scootering magazine on Sunday. He’s a top bloke with some very funny stories about the scooters that have been featured. [:)]
