hi all, i,ve been setting up the carb on my px200e,i started at 1.5 turns out for mixture and 2.5 turns out for idle, its fouling the plug and running a little rough, the more i close the mixture screw the better it runs,at the moment it has a sito plus on it and a B7ES plug,no matter what i do the plug is getting black and sooty? any help greatly appreciated thanks
thanks for the help, will try a new plug first then find out which jets are in thanks
right i,ve pulled the jets out, well i think i have? undid to 2 brass screw things and the markings on them read as follows the bigger of the 2 has on it 160 BE3 and the smaller 1 has on it 55 160.
i really dont know what this means so any help would be gratefully recieved, its a standard px200e with a sito plus exhaust, i,ve got the mixture screw out 1 1/4 turns, it seems to bog a bit at full throttle and the plug is black and sooty plug is a B7ES??? anybody tell me how to get the carb back to standard so i know where i am??? thanks alot
hi and thanks, the sito was on when i got the scooter so dont really know whats been done regarding the jetting,i,m not mechanically minded really but will have a go,is the main jet attached to the atomizer? or do i need to disassemble the carb to get at it? will have a look see and get back to you, thanks again for all your help.
will do that thanks
BE3 is the standard "atomizer" for the PX200. How about the size of the "main jet" connected to the end of the atomizer BE3? There is a number / code stamped on it, the stock number / code is 116 for the PX200 (SI24-24) carb.
With regards to your setting, I don't see anything wrong with it, but still your plugs are fouling. Check the size of your main jet. It maybe too big, since you said you installed a SITO exhaust, I'm assuming you replaced your main jet also.
Black soot? Is it wet or dry?
Main jet size 116 is the original jet for your carb, but we still don't know if it has been "re-jetted", meaning the hole of the jet was enlarged, maybe by the previous user to compensate for the SITO exhaust. Try changing your main jet with one that has not been re-jetted, using the same 116 code as basis.
If the plug is still fowling up try downsizing the main jet by one size
(you running 116? or 118?). Also try using a hotter plug, for example
B6ES. When you turn the mixture screw in you lean it and when you turn it out you richen it. Just becareful not to lean it out too much otherwise engine heating becomes a problem.
am now running a 115 jet and its like a different bike, it revs higher through all the gears with no flat spots, its running great and the plug is a nice chocolate brown colour.
A stuck choke would explain the fouling and the extra fuel consumption.
hi again, the main jet is stamped 116 as you said, put a new plug in last night and had a good run, this morning its thick with black soot, what do i need to do? would this affect fuel economy?i seem to be using a lot of petrol but maybe thats just me.thanks
Glad to hear you got it sorted, make sure when you put a new spark plug in that you re-gap the end (0.6mm for PX200), cause the new plugs I have come across the gap is always bigger then the proper gap size.
thanks for your help will try the plug first of all then explore further if no better.
Also check your Air Filter Element, a dirty / clogged element will also affect your mixture setting.
Hi. Are you using a „new“ spark plug? In my experience, I can never get a good result when plug reading by using my old plug. So try changing it for a new one. Next, what „jet size“ are you using right now? Maybe it’s too big for your application giving you a very rich mixture resulting in your plugs fouling. Hope this helps.

Great. So your main jet was "over jetted" from the start. If you want to increase jet size, try putting in 2 points larger jet size from the original, say a 118 main jet. Happy scootering and more horsepower.
hi, thanks for the info, at the min i,ve drilled out the love heart, have the mixture screw turned out 0.5 and the plug is perfect colour, was struggling a bit top end so am now going to try the 116 main jet again and see if plug remains ok,116 is biggest i have but if thats ok i will try the 118 i,ve been told should be in there? thanks to all for helping.
Its good to hear that your bike is running well. You could try the 118 Main Jet, just be sure its an „original one“ and that it was never „re-jetted“.
The original 116 may well have oversized by a previous owner ‚cleaning‘ it , tolerances are tiny and there are those who use wire etc to clean out old jets - changing 116 to 115 should not produce the transformation you have had unless there was a problem with the original jet. The brass jet is extremely soft by comparison to the wire and can easily be oversized. On a standard PX200E a B6ES is perfect unless in very hot weather then a B7ES may be a little better. How many miles / KMs has the bike done ? Do you have any other problems like losing power when it warm or hard to start when warm ? What colour smoke is she putting out ? Check the choke mechanisim is disengaging or that the choke cable is not too tight .
