Are they any better than a dr kit? Id assume they wouldnt overheat as much, and according to the sip site they make a pretty good distance kit, what kinda speed you reckon i could get from one with a 24mm carb and lower primary?
Also could someone explain the whole primary business with smallframes, is it the same as with largies, ie clutch and large gear at the end of the gearbox need replacing or what?
Technically the answer would be yes, but one mans cruising is another mans virtually flat out speed.
If a reeded malossi kit with welded and ported casings (or worb 5 polini) can touch the 75/80 mark with correct working of the motor, correct gear up, carb and exhaust choice then feasably it is possible, but hen the reliability and longevity stakes com into play.
At the end of the day its a smallframe and limitations are set by the strength of componentry. You’ve got to think realistically tho.
There’s no compromise for cc’s and if high speed distance cruising is your goal then just by a P2
I know there are quite a few other’s on here that are far more knowledgable than me,but may not want to intrude on a thread directed to me or another specific person.
I,however, have no problem sticking my nose in and offering advice whether it’s wanted or not.
i thought the 50 had a 43mm crank standard and the 135 needed a 51mm one?
Also will i need to change my flywheel when i change into a longer crank? I wanna fit an electronic ignition, so someone suggested fitting a pk 125 crank so i can use its flywheel.
thanks mate, i am in the process of building a p2 as well, however there is a national run in the next couple of months so i was hoping to be able to do it on a smallframe, i guess the 200 will have to do then.
Ultraphine,if you’re building one to sell remember you’ll need a 54mm stroke crank to fit a Polini 130.[;)] Personally I’d leave that a 51mm and use the 102,either Polini or Pinasco.
Avenger, have you got any further with the Zirri/Fabrizi hybred?
If you have I want detail’s(and a shot of it[;)]
sorry about that mate, it was more meant as a real time thing, i was hoping you were still hanging around.
Thanks for the help though much appreciated
Im probably just gonna bite the bullet and use a polini 130 kit for all three, i need a bike for a rally coming up soon, and as it is over 900 kms away i cant really see myself doing it on a 102cc kit.
I’d much prefer the Pinasco over the DR.However,I’d keep the up-grade simple using a 19/19 .I don’t think this small a kit is worth over-tuning.
The primary will be higher geared, not lower to achive a bit more speed and to stop itself over-revving.The standard 50 item is ludicrously low.
As for the gearbox, the smallframes use the same principal’s as their larger kin, just in a more compact package.
Don’t take this as critacism, merely an observation, but everone is friend’s on here.Don’t start thread’s aimed at a specific person as it may put other’s off adding their advice and experiance.I certainly don’t know it all, everyday is a school day.[;)]
Juan , the extreme smalframe motor is on the backshelf at the mo’ as just workin on finishin me lammy. Hopin to have the new smallframe motor built for next season so I can leave „hail frank“ eatin my dust.
Alright guys, just like to comment on this one. The polini130 is a fantastic kit (probably the best allrounder for smallframes), excellent cooling properties and not overtuned. This the classic long ditance small frame cruising barrel. I have cranked up 1000’s of miles on mine EASILY cruising at 50/55 allday, with extra power leftover to challenge contenders.
Ok it ain’t got the Malossi fercocity, but i ain’t ever siezed ior replaced the rings. I run a standard et3 primary and plan to try an upgear next season but i find the 3rd to 4th jump quite long and believe any upgear would need a zirri short 4th and T5 shim on the end of the cluster to avoid gearbox problems.
the clutch bell is the big cog and the small drive cog goes on the end of your crank - hey presto -upgear

Sorry,I was obviously talking bollock’s on the stroke,I really should avoid the interweb when drinking.;D
