I got my pinasco 215cc kit!

hi
i finaly got the kit and i am planing to install it in the next days.i have a px200 year of 98’ will i have to adjust the timing and if i will how i am going to do that?

will i need to run the engine for more than 500 km or it is enough?

thanks

oren

if i will just bolt it on without adjusting the ignition, what will happen?

i don’t realy know how to do it so i will be glad to get a decent explanation.

i don’t have a strobo any other advices?

I’ve only ran in a couple of barrels, but given my experience, and that of most people i’ve spoken to about it, you should be ok with taking it easy for the first 45 minutes or so… rub some oil around the bore when you stick it together, then start it and let it idle for a few mins then just go easy gradually opening it up. taking it easy for the first couple of hundred km’s might make the difference between the kit lasting for age’s, or, not so ages, but i don’t know?? reckon it’ll be alright after 45mins…

thanks!
will be glad for any more advices!

hello,

as I wrote in the previous answer, if you don’t have a strobo it is better to be conservative.
Yes in between A and IT should be around 21, but could be also 23 since I found it possible to have 2° degree of difference between the case mark and the real advance.
If you have less advance it is OK, you will loose just performance but you won’t risk anything.
I advice you to start in this position and then moove the statorplate counter clock wise to get closer to the A mark and see how your engine behaves. If it doesn’t pink and you found it has better performance and still good high rev, it will be ok.

hello,

if the ignition is far too advanced you can make an hole in your piston.
Prophetic sign of this is the pinking noise. So if you ear some metallic noise you know it is not good.

If you don’t have any strobo it is better to play conservative.

First step is to take the flywheel out.

In the ignition plate you have two sign : A and IT
A correspond to 23° and IT to 18°.

In the crancase you have a visible line mark.

unscrew the screws of the ignition plate and rotate the ignition plate so that the cranckcase mark will be between the A and IT mark of the ignition plate.
Screw the ignition plate screws, put the flywheel back, tight the flywheel nut strongly ( if you have a dyno should be set at 65Nm).

then get a spark plug of the following grade:
if you drive in town
if it is a Bosch grade 4
NGK 8
Denso 24

if you go for a long trip
Bosch 3
Denso 27
NGK 9

I had it and ran very well. Not really powerful but a nice piece af aluminium. You need to adjust the timing to 20° if i’m not wrong and not to 24 as Pinasco advice. Other scooterist can help you better than me for this. I don’t think you need to run for 500kms unless you drive as a racing pilot.

i read that i need to adjust the timing to 24 deegrees and to set for ngk 9 acording to pinasco web site. and if i will put the mark between the A to IT it will be around 21 degrees if i correct, can it harm the piston if it will not be correct?and if u said that the A mark is 23 degrees isn’t it better to put it on the A mark?

hello,

for the ignition I have to say that with nomal stroke I found 23° preatty OK. The problem is the A crankcase mark that can give you 2-3° difference. So check it with the strobo what the A mark correspond to.

Running in: if everything else is set properly, carb - ignition…, then a coupple of hours of short full opening will do it.
The longer runing period are only useful to finely adjust the engine and if you are not sure of your set up.

Curare knows very well Vespa’s tuning parts and there no need to doubt about his advices. I wrote about the same advice in my bad english. I was thinking of the ignition and not the timing when I told you to set it to 20°. I did the same on my P200 and had good results. You will have better performances matching the transfers and with a bigger carb, lightened flywheel and a good exhaust but if you don’t want to spend a lot of money do what Curare told you and you’ll have a very reliable engine
