There seems to be plenty of free play between gear tube and handlebars in my PX200. The „hole“ where gear tube goes to lower part of handlebar seem to be little bit too big now because of wear. This causes irritating vibrations when I drive certain speeds.
Is there any other solution to this problem than buying a new lower part of the handlebar?
I actually bought a new lower part of the handlebar but the play remained. I think I pt the washers as shown in the picture, I did this in 1990 so I don’t really recall.
take the control tubes out, clean the holes they go through with brake cleaner, brush hammerite round inside(3-4 coats), grease over the top of the hammerite and slip the control tubes back in. works every time
What bar ends did you try? Most motorbike ones are just for show, to tidy the ends of the grip area. They are too light for vibration damping. I make my own in billet alloy which are designed for vibration damping, they are a lot bigger than most bike ones, but they need to be.
You might find it strange, but washers works every time too. I’ve have driven 40’000 miles with them.
As your solution don’t require any turning equipment, it might be a better answer to uucees question.
I had the same problem, on the throttle side as well, and I solved it by reducing the axial play. I made 2 mm brass washers, to fit over the tube, and placed them inside the handlebar.
