Gear Box: 5 gears?

As anyone got any informations about the 5th gear.
I just heard about it on the Vespa club de France BBS.
It is an interesting idea.

It may sound good but it has disadvantages as well. First thing is it has to fit in the same space as a 4 speed box which means the gear cogs have to be thinner, therefor making them weaker. 20% thinner and weaker. While this maybe ok for older standard Vespas i would not entertain it on a tuned motor. Lots of vespas and lambrettas had them in the Late 70s and early 80s but very few of them lasted any length of time.[:dance3:]

The 5 speed boxes start giving problems in a fairly short period of time and the eventually die. Unless you like splitting the casings and fiddling with the gears regularly, steer well clear,

Teh quality of this gear box was very, very bad. The gears were too weak and all guys which used (I know 4 or 5 of them) this gear box lost most of the theeths of the gears. The transmission ratio is ok, also for tuned engines but the quality is completly crap!
