Thinking of a light wight flywheel for a172 T5, i will get more revs but what will happen to the torque, will it go up / down or stay the same.
thanks Richie

Hi!
As I believe, please correct me if I am wrong, the nicalsil plating is a electrolytic process, and as such it is difficult to get an exact thickness of the layer. Instead of plating a thick layer and hone it to dimension, they aim for a size that can be honed down to B size. If that layer should be to thick in the plating process, it will be honed to an A size, and if it is to thin, honed to a C.
By doing so, they reduce expensive plating as well as grinding.
In short, it is a way to make a cheaper product, and still keep a high standard.

Hi Richie, be warned that the HP4 flywheel has not got the same taper inside as a standard T5 one. The T5 has a slightly thicker taper on its crank than the rest of the P PE PX PK range. If you put it on it stands off from the stater plate and the nut only just go’s on. It will run but is only just on there. It also will rub on the flywheel cover. The only way around this is to swop the centre boss by un-riviting it and re-rivitng it on to the HP4 one. This sounds a big job but it’s not really if you have some engineering knowhow.
Has someone out there got a piston that i can buy? May buy a polini kit, can i put a malossi 65mm head on it.
Richie
You will loose some torque because of the lower mass in movement. So keep those revs up !.
Hi chaps, I has taken some pictures of a T5 crank with a T5 crank boss and a HP4 boss to show the difference in taper and also some pictures of a line I put on to show the difference in the taper and boss height. Pictures are on the forumpics.

Pistons are toleratet to the cylinder, so you should look at the cylinder for the A, B, or C mark (usually stamped at the top or the buttom of the cylinder).
Yes thats right but if youv’e had the kit a while go for higher grade(larger) A being smallest
I got my standard one lighted at beedspeed 4 15 quid and new piston from sip.
thanks Richie
Ive HP4 working perfect in a T5. I haven
t found any instalation problem.
Regards.
Do sip do a lightened flywheel for T5. Is it HP4? Technically speaking you will loose torque but you wont notice it on the road with a 172. What you will get is a big jump in accelaration and increased clutch wear(nothings for free). The HP4 also does not cool as well as std so keep an cautious ear at high speed.
