Now I have finished my T5 shape LML I am starting my PX 200 cutdown/streetracer. I have a set of Beedspeed drops but they feel too narrow at 24inches, and I think I will have trouble with my fused right wrist. I am converting a PX headset to see if it will be better.
First; I cut the brake lever pivot back to make a space for the motorcycle brake cylinder to fit into, I cant just cut the whole switch housing off as it would weaken the headset too much ( but it means I can keep it looking standard..ish & use a stock indicator switch). File off the saw marks & sand smooth. Second; Measure to make new throttle tube in 25mm od/6mm wall 608/H30 alloy tube, cut the length, then turn it down in the lathe, it has two sections at 24mm with the middle recessed to 22mm for the mastercylinder & thumb throttle (because I have to leave the switch housing on the headset it makes the new throttle tube slightly longer than the T5 one, 75mm for a PX/ 50mm for a T5). Drill bottom of headset & tube to bolt together. Thirdly; With the new throttle tube turned I move to the left hand bar and turn a 75mm extension from 25mm solid alloy bar to move the grip out, drill it out to match the size of the tube on the throttle side so it looks like both tubes are the same if I dont use bar ends (again I make it like a pushbike steering stem with 80mm up inside the steel tube, don`t want the grip to come off as I ride the scooter). Then I make a spacer to move the grip out from the switch housing (I make it the same width as the thick part of the grip, cos I need to be able to slide my hand up it to work the light switch, I move the indicator switch from the left to the right switch housing and the light switch from the right to the left, so I can work the most important light switches with my good left hand. I only bother with the indicator switch when I am slowing down as I need to lift off the thumb throttle to use it).
This has been a lot easier than my T5 as most of the design work was done. The bars now measure 30.5 inches on the PX where my T5 are 29 inches and they look a fair bit different from standard. Will add pics as soon as possible.
