In 2006 there
was 35 riders for the Cannonball Run, this year more than 50 riders are waited.
The Cannonball is a well known and respected race in the vintage scooter sceen in America and reserved to the best mecanics & hardcore riders.
I plan to run the M200 Classe with a 1971 Vespa V9A, that is already striped down, I made a fiberglass 90SS Fuel tank + a 15 ~ 18 liters spare fuel tank (so I can keep going for hours ), witch is in the welding prosess right now, 20 degrees drop bar, 90 SS cut leg shield, custom front fender & racing seat, + professsional custom paint with your colors to come, and more....
I have been working on this bike for more than a year to prepare the body and fuel tanks.
Here are the main Classes for the Cannonball 2008.
Scooter with manual transmission not more than 202cc displacement
Scooter with automatic transmission not more than 195cc displacement
Scooter with manual transmission greater than 202cc and not more than 252cc
Scooter with automatic transmission greater than 195cc and not more than 252cc
It will travel 3500 milles in 9 days mainly on Highway 50 ( the loneliest road in America ) from San Francisco California to Redoboth Beach Delaware.
There will be NO SUPPORT VEHICULE unless provided by the rider... So I will need to carry all my spare parts...and tools...for this race.
here's a first pass at the rules.
- 1 Vehicle Requirements
- 1.1 Participation is limited to scooters
- 1.1.1 A scooter is a two or three wheeled vehicle that satisfies AT
LEAST ONE of the following conditions:
- 126.96.36.199 unit construction of engine, transmission and rear
- 188.8.131.52 wheels no larger than 13in.
- 184.108.40.206 originally equipped with a step-through style frame.
- 220.127.116.11 originally equipped with running boards or leg shield.
- 1.2 Classes: The following divisions will be used for point
- 1.2.1 Manual 200: Scooter with manual transmission not more than
- 1.2.2 Auto 190: Scooter with automatic transmission not more than
- 1.2.3 Manual 250: Scooter with manual transmission greater than
202cc and not more than 252cc
- 1.2.4 Auto 250: Scooter with automatic transmission greater than
195cc and not more than 252cc
- 1.3 Equipment:
- 1.3.1 All scooters must have current registration in their home
- 1.3.2 All scooters must have all equipment as required in their
- 2 Rider Requirements
- 2.1 All riders must be licensed to ride their scooter in their home
state without time or road restrictions.
- 2.2 All riders must have liability insurance as required in their
home state and valid in all states through which the route passes.
- 2.3 All riders must wear a helmet
- 2.4 All riders must wear gloves
- 2.5 All riders must wear boots that cover the ankle
- 2.6 All riders must wear a leather or textile jacket with padding or
- 3 Support
- 3.1 Each rider is responsible for their own support
- 3.2 Riders may form teams to combine support resources
- 3.3 All riders must declare their support plan before the start of
- 3.4 All riders and support teams are expected to stop to assist any
rider that is in need of assistance.
assistance required to be given is limited to that affecting
the health and safety of the other rider and helping them
make contact with their support team.
- 4 Route
- 4.1 The "Route" will be the preferred, but not required, path to be
- 4.2 The following control points will be defined along each day's
- 4.2.1 Start Control
- 4.2.2 Known Control
- 4.2.3 Finish Control
- 4.3 Each day's route will have 1 start control, 1-3 known controls,
and 1 finish control.
- 4.4 Riders must pass through all controls.
- 4.5 Each route segment from one control to the next will have a
- 4.6 Each route segment from one control to the next will have a
- 5 Location/Time Records
- 5.1 A time card will be distributed to each rider for recording
- 5.2 The Master Clock will be available at the start control at least
30 min before the earliest start time through to the latest start
- 5.3 All riders must record the offset of their camera and/or clock to
the master clock at the start and end of each day.
- 5.4 At each control all riders must take a digital photo with a date
time stamp or note the time shown on their clock.
- 5.5 At the finish control all riders must have their time initialed.
- 6 Points
- 6.1 The intent of the points system is to:
- 6.1.1 provide a competitive yet legal way of ranking the
performance of the riders within each class.
- 6.1.2 keep riders on mostly the same route for safety reasons
without having to specify and monitor every turn.
- 6.1.3 provide partial credit for partially completed days.
- 6.1.4 provide a tracking method that is quick and easy for riders
- 6.1.5 provide more feedback to "spectators" about progress and
standings as the ride goes on.
- 6.2 For each segment completed points will be awarded based on the
number of miles in that segment according to the route.
- 6.3 For each segment completed a point will be deducted for each
minute above and beyond the standard time for that segment. No
more than one half the milage points may be deducted for time.
- 6.4 Missing a known control will result in a maximum deduction for
time on the segments involved.
- 6.5 Bonus points will be awarded for the following:
- 6.5.1 15 points for assisting a rider not on your team
- 6.6 Penalty points will be deducted for the following:
- 6.6.1 15 points will be deducted for being a total dork and riding
through a small town at 65mph
- 6.6.2 15 points will be deducted for passing a truck on a blind
curve cresting a hill (for example).
