150 super flywheel

Hi,

I have a 1974 150 super with a DR 177 kit. I have previously sheared the crank at the flywheel becuase (as i understand it) the flywheel was too heavy and the engine was revving hard.

Is there another lighter flywheel that will fit the super?..Is it possible to fit a HP4 to a super with points?

Thanks

Hi its less that the flywheel is too heavey more the crankshaft taper is too weak. You could take your flywheel to a machine shop and get them to remove some of the weight but this may cause problems else where. Best thing is to bin the engine and fit px. Its possible to still keep the looks of the old engine-they are not that different. You will always have problems with making super engines do modern speeds.
